It's.... Christmas eve!!! Yes, I did spend the entire day indulging in... well, look: someone else's thing

I think it looks cooler like this: (and this ends up being a 1-line change!)

What I learned from today was that small and seemingly trivial things end up mattering a lot - often more than the things that seem at first Big and Important. (Case in point: compositing. At first, I thought the two lines of code were for clearing the screen. They were, but they also served the subtle purpose of clearing it in a gradual way.)

The other big thing that I learned, yet again, was the importance of having something small that works. It could be anything - a single circle on the screen. I'm always one to chew off big pieces, but this tiny tip is so, so, so important, that it just might be the single greatest tip I know. Why? 1) you need to be able to tell if parts of your code work, just as a mechanic would test the tires independently from the steering wheel, 2) debugging is so much easier if you have (1) and (3), 3) you wanna always have intermediate results, and 4) it's actually more fun that way!  "building a four-inch telescope, and then a six-inch telescope.... is faster than building a six-inch telescope." - sia

Cheers :)
