The writing of people ages past, occupying spaces above and beyond. Multi user dungeons are a strange concept: entire worlds manifest in words and shaped by people, and realities that exist only when they do. Creating a multi-user dungeon sounds fun!
imagine a world as extensive as a video game, but in text - reading a novel.
Harmard walked along the open air promenade. It was something he had done before, a thousand times, but this time was different. the promenade was just as full, bustling with people, and he passed the stalls of pine nuts and fruits and exotic spices and rugs. "50 pins for a dollar!" a voice trilled. Wispy fog drifted through the market, smelling like onions and roasted meat and ocean air. He kept his hands close, unwilling to be pickpocketed just now. The person he was looking for must be here, recognizable for her red turban.
Classes
Noise, Dissipation, Amplification, and Information
Course Description
Graduate-level non-equilibrium statistical physics applied to noise phenomena, both classical and quantum. The aim of the course is to explain the fundamental link between the random fluctuations of a physical system in steady state and the response of the same system to an external perturbation. Several key examples in which noise appears as a resource rather than a limitation are treated: spin relaxation in nuclear magnetic resonance (motional narrowing), Johnson-Nyquist noise in solid state transport physics (noise thermometry), photon correlation measurements in quantum optics (Hanbury Brown-Twiss experiment), and so on. The course explores both passive and active systems. It discusses the ultimate limits of amplifier sensitivity and speed in physics measurements.
Classical Storytelling and Modern Screenwriting

Plant Diversity and Evolution
Course Description
Introduction to the major plant groups and their evolutionary relationships, with an emphasis on the diversification and global importance of flowering plants. To be taken concurrently with E&EB 247L. Prerequisite: a general understanding of biology and evolution. Hands-on experience with the plant groups examined in the accompanying lectures. Local field trips.
(I was thinking about this. "What kind of papers do you think are inspirational? For doing research in E&EB?" And if I have to do statistical analysis, just ask: "What kind of statistics do I need here?" FB has shown me that most answers are simply there, and people are more than willing to help you get things done)
