Photos from the life
OK, I'm starting a blog here, because I believed it was the only place I could put videos (my favorite medium) straight from the camera, a la mode; but I was mistaken. Small let-down, but a huge let-up: the typing here is so primal I love it. No fancy fonts, nothing pretty: serif font, minuscule-margin text on a white background. The inky black letters press closely together, packing in tight so that you can imagine a five-hundred page book, all the way down. The design style is almost perfect. Simplicity, joy in making things that work, and ignorance of the style guide that says you have to make things look the same, hues much closer to the make-it-do version of the web than most other designed sites I find today. Wheeee
Fruits and Nature
the small things in life :)
are often the biggest. saw someone who didn't get to enjoy these things bc she was homeless and had a sign that said "help. homeless and have a kid". but what am i supposed to do?? i don't want to guilt-trip myself into helping everyone that i see, and i run into a lot of people, and i still haven't worked out what i *ought* to be doing in those situations. on one hand, i feel that ethics have certain universal traits (what do i think about kant?) but also in a lot of situations the instinctive "ethical" response runs into the barrier between self and society.
I suppose ethics deals in interactions between people, and I am sometimes glad that there are no people to think about. the world is wonderful and beautiful and mysterious, and never let anyone convince you otherwise.
Exhibit 1, the farmer's market:
beautiful! there was this flower stand at the place... there were really cool orange flowers too.
apricots are really delicious. trust me, i'm the Doctor (or one of them, anyways)
micro plants!!!
succulents? on the left, a couple is talking to the guy who is selling them; he's rather hipster-looking, wearing his flip flops and hat, and is going to Spain in a week to visit his girlfriend.
a little girl
the strawberries are in season, I think.
brioche is officially my favorite bread. it's soo good. i'm pretty sure that you're not supposed to eat it by ploofing it in front of your face (a verb that roughly means, to hold something soft up to your nose/mouth, like a towel) and then smelling it for 30 seconds first... but i'm weird, and people are missing out ;)

(this is the flower stand)
went to dinner with a friend from Arkansas!! she, I, and my roommate all share this place. It feels very together, very safe, when people from home meet in new places. Even though she's been here a few years, a college student at Stanford, and I don't think this place as new anymore..
(for some reason people photos are more often taken by other people, haha. we have a photo together, it's just on someone else's phone. which is fine.)
